91 diabetic patients were randomised to non-surgical scaling and root planing and amoxicillin or control. While periodontal status significantly improved at 3 months there was no no significant effects on
glycaemic control.
This review of metformin as an adjunct to scaling and root planing for chronic periodontitis included 5 RCTs that were of limited quality and mainly from one research group. The findings suggest benefit.
