This review of different bleaching agents used for internal bleaching of endodontically treated discoloured teeth included 8 studies. While the findings suggest all agents had a positive effect the quality of the avaiiable studies is low so the findings should be interpreted cautiously.

This Cochrane review updated assessing the impact of oral health measures on the incidence of ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP) in critically ill patients receiving mechanical ventilation in intensive care includes 40 RCTs and suggests that Chlorhexidine mouthwash or gel, as part of oral health measures, probably reduces the incidence of developing VAP.

This review of difference concentrations of hydrogen peroxide for in-office dental bleaching on colour change and bleaching sensitivity included 25 RCTs. The findings indicate that low and medium hydrogen peroxide concentrations had lower risk and intensity of bleaching sensitivity and no difference in colour change efficacy compared with high concentrations.

This latest rapid review from Mark-Steven Howe looks at the virucidal efficacy of commonly used oral mouthwashes. No high quality evidence was identified. Some demonstrate good virucidal properties but have poor substativity with the benefits being lost within a few minutes.

This Cochrane review update of the effects of home-based tooth whitening products dispensed by a dentist or over-the-counter included 71 RCTs. However, most of thetrials were small single studies of interventions of highly variable nature providing very low-certainty evidence over short time periods to support the effectiveness of home-based chemically-induced whitening.

This review of the effect of light activation on tooth whitening efficacy included 21 RCTs finding that neither the efficacy nor the risk of tooth sensitivity of in-office bleaching was influenced by the use of light, regardless of the hydrogen peroxide concentration.

This review of tooth whitening included 13 randomised studies and suggests that tray-delivered carbamide peroxide gel provided better whitening efficacy than HP-based products. However the available evidence is very heterogeneous and short term.
