10 studies involving 746 adult patients were included in this review comparing articaine and lidocaine in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Articaine was as effective as lidocaine and provided better supplementary infiltration after mandibular block but no other advantages.

This review of the impact of eugenol-based sealers on the bond strengths for fibre posts cemented to root canals included 9 in-vitro studies. The eugenol-based sealants reduced the bond strength by 0.8 MPa.

This small trial compared the success rates of 3 different filling materials (RC Fill, Vitapex and Pulpdent ) following pulpectomy in primary molars. At 30 months there were no significant differences between the groups.

This review compared direct pulp capping in permanent teeth with MTA and calcium hydroxide including 13 studies, 10 of which were RCTs. The odds of success were higher with MTA, OR = 2.26; (95% CI, 1.33–3.85).

This review found a significantly higher mean survival for implant supported crowns (97%) compared with Intentionally replanted (IR) teeth (88%). Evidence for IR teeth was limited, being heterogeneous, old and potential suffering from publication bias.

This new review of root canal retreatment indirectly compares the outcomes of two approaches, non-surgical retreatment and microsurgery. Only 4 of the studies were RCTs but these did not involve direct comparison of the two approaches. Pooled success rates suggest better outcomes for the microsurgical approach.

This review compared root fracture rates of metal and fibre root canal posts and found not difference. While 14 studies were included only 7 were randomised trials and all were of low quality so higher quality studies are needed.

This small study found good short term success rates for a new MTA derived pulp capping material in permanent teeth. Larger well-conducted longer-term studies are necessary to establish its clinical utility.

This review looks at whether large apical master files lead to better root canal treatment outcomes. Only a limited number of low quality studies are available so at present we are uncertain.
