This Cochrane review update of the optimal recall interval of dental check-up for oral health in a primary care setting included 2 RCTs. The findings show little to no difference between six‐monthly and risk‐based check‐ups in tooth decay, gum disease and quality of life after four years.

Motivational Interviewing: Is it effective in preventing early childhood caries?

This review of teh effectivenesss of motivational interviewing (MI) in the prevention of early childhood caries included 14 trials of which eight ccontributed to the meta-analyses. The findings suggest that approached based on MI may be useful in prevention of early childhood caries.

Interproximal caries detection: near-infrared light transillumination (NILT) compared to bitewing radiograph

This review of the accuracy of the near-infrared light transillumination (NILT) for the detection of interproximal dental caries in permanent dentition included 13 studies with 6 contributing to a meta-analasis. Findings suggest that NILT is reasonably comparable to bitewings.

This review of the prevalence of dental caries in preschool children born preterm and/or with a low birth weight included 59 observational studies suggesting caries prevelence was similar to full term children of normal weight. However, the certainty of teh evidence was very low.
