11 studies (7 cohort, 4 cross-sectional) were identified for this review of caries risk factors identified by life course approach studies. Different life course factors were associated with the development of dental caries among children and adolescents, including sociodemographic, biological, psychological, and oral health behaviors, as well as the dental status of mothers, children, and adolescents.

Pulpectomy in primary molars: little difference with 3 filing materials

This small trial compared the success rates of 3 different filling materials (RC Fill, Vitapex and Pulpdent ) following pulpectomy in primary molars. At 30 months there were no significant differences between the groups.

Anterior open bite: limited evidence for current treatment approaches

While 22 studies were included in this review of the treatment of anterior open bite, only 3 were RCTs. The RCTs and the other included studies were of low quality and a wide range of treatment approaches and appliances were used. Further high quality trials are needed to guide clinical practice.

Fixed functional appliances for class II malocclusions

This review of fixed functional appliances for treatment of class II malocclusion included 9 studies, only one of which was a RCT. The findings suggest that fixed functional appliances are effective at producing short term improvements in class II malocclusions but should be interpreted with caution because of the quality of the available evidence.

Traumatic dental injury associated with overweight/obese children?

This review of observations studies of traumatic dental injury includes 17 studies and found a higher risk of injury in overweight/obese children. Odds ratio = 1.30 (95% CI, 1.11–1.53; P < 0.05).

Motivational interviewing for paediatric oral health

The review of motivational interviewing (MI) to improve parent-child health interventions included 25 studies in all with 4 dental studies. The dental studies demonstrated a positive effect on oral health and were suggestive of a benefit on dental caries.

This cost minimisation study was based on a small RCT comparing fixed or removable appliances for the treatment of anterior crossbite in Sweden. The overall costs were €678 for fixed appliances and €1031 for removable appliances.
