New Cochrane Protocol for August 2012

Logo of The Cochrane Collaboration

The August issue of the Cochrane library has one new protocol from the Oral Health Group.

Kozel JA, Macedo CR, Atallah ÁN. Laceback ligatures for controlling anchorage in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment (Protocol). Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews 2012, Issue 8. Art. No.: CD010014. DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD010014.

The aims of this review are to determine the effects of laceback ligatures for controlling the position of the:

  1. anterior teeth (amount of flaring/proclination of incisors or canines or both) during orthodontic treatment compared with participants not having laceback ligatures placed as part of their orthodontic treatment and/or
  2. posterior teeth (amount of mesial movement of molars or premolars or both).

Comment

Readers may recall that in May of this year we looked at a systematic review by Fleming et al which also looked at the use on lacebacks in orthodontics. In due course it will be interesting to compare the two reviews.
