This review of the effectiveness of leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and advanced-platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) in mandibular third molar extraction included 10 RCTs. While the findings suggest some benefits the studies are small and limited in number so the findings should be interpreted cautiously.
Manas Dave takes a look at this review aiming to identify the potential risk factors associated with the development of oral mucositis in paediatric patients. While a range of risk factos are higlighted it is worth noting that 80-100% of all children having chemotherapy experience some degree of mucositis.
This review of the efficacy of vitamin B in treating mouth ulcers included 16 RCTs published since 2010. All the included studies were published in Chinese with the findings that treatment was more effective in patients treated with vitamin B.
This review assessing the safety and efficacy of articaine for routine dental treatment compared to lidocaine included 12 RCTs involving a total of 919 patients. The findings indicate that articaine is is a safe and efficacious local anaesthetic for all routine dental procedures.
This review of the effectiveness of topical anaesthesia in in reducing pain during local anaesthetic injections for dental procedures included 22 RCTs. Statistically significant differences were seen during needle puncture with topical anaesthetic use in the maxilla and palate but not the mandible.
This review assessing the effectiveness of intraoral stents in reducing toxicities in oral cavity induced by radiotherapy in head and neck region included 7 small studies. While the analysis suggests a beneficial effect from the use of intraoral stents the included studies only provide verylow certainty evidence so further high-quality RCTs are needed.
This review comparing topical natural substances with conventional antifungals in the treatment of denture stomatitis included 17 studies 14 of which were RCTs. A wider range of natural products were tested and showed similar efficacy to antifungals however, almost all the studies were at high risk of bias so the certainty of the evidence is very low.
This review of the evidence on the malignant transformation of oral proliferative verrucous leukoplakia included 17 mainly retrospective observational studies. The overall estimate for malignant transformation was 43.87% (95% CI; 31.93 to 56.13) but only 4 studies were at low risk of bias.
This review of the distribution of histological subtypes, treatment and overall survival (OS) rates of head and neck sacomas included 8 studies from 6 countries. Meta-analysis (5 studies) found the 5-year OS = 74%(95%CI; 63 to 84%)
