Manas Dave is an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Honorary Lecturer in Dentistry at The University of Manchester. Manas graduated from the University of Manchester with degrees in Pathology and Dentistry before undertaking General Professional Training in the North East. During this time, he achieved qualifications in Pathology Informatics and Medical Education. He is currently studying a Masters degree in Dental Public Health.

Oral manifestations of COVID-19

This review of the oral signs and symptoms in patients with COVID-19 includes 40 studies (33 cross-sectional and 7 case reports). The findings show a significant association with taste disorders but little in relation to other oral disorders. As this is planned to be a living review it will be interesting to see if further evidence emerges.

This review the influence of reducing the etching time on the dentine of primary teeth for bonding with etch-and-rinse and self-etching adhesive systems included 8 laboratory studies. The findings suggest that that reductions in acid-etching and primer application did not impact the immediate bond strength.

Photodynamic therapy for oral lichen planus

This review looked at the efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment or oral lichen lplanus (OLP) and compares PDT with steroid therapy. 16 studies were included with the findings suggesting that photodynamic therapy may offer patients with OLP improved pain relief and better efficacy compared to topical corticosteroids.

Metastasis to the oral and maxillofacial region

This review of metastasis to the oral and maxillofacial region included 217 studies (190 case reports,24 case series ). Metastasis were uncommon, but identified from 29 primary sites, the most common sites being lung the lungs (20.97%), breast (12.06%) and kidney (11.78%).

Optical fluorescence imaging in oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders
